Applying to Essex County Fire & Rescue?

Practise the NFA firefighter selection tests — Working with Numbers, Understanding Information, and Situational Awareness — with timed simulations built for Essex County Fire & Rescue candidates.

Essex County Fire & Rescue

Essex County Fire & Rescue Service (ECFRS) covers one of England's most populous counties — from the Thames Estuary in the south to the Suffolk border in the north, including Chelmsford, Colchester, Southend, and Harlow. Competition for wholetime firefighter roles is strong, with many applicants drawn by the county's proximity to London and strong career progression.

ECFRS uses the National Firefighter Selection process. The NFA written tests form part of the initial online assessment stage and are a prerequisite for advancing to physical assessment and interview. Candidates must reach the required pass mark in all three tests.

Working with Numbers questions are grounded in realistic firefighter data — you might interpret a resource deployment table, calculate the area of a floor plan, or work out staffing requirements from a shift rota. These are practical numerical skills, not abstract algebra.

Practising under timed conditions is critical. The 45-minute limit for 32 Working with Numbers questions leaves roughly 85 seconds per question on average — tight enough that hesitation costs you. Regular timed practice builds both speed and composure.

The three NFA tests

All three simulations are included for £14.99. Each is timed, scored, and comes with full answer explanations.
