Applying to Avon Fire & Rescue Service?
Practise the NFA firefighter selection tests — Working with Numbers, Understanding Information, and Situational Awareness — with timed simulations built for Avon Fire & Rescue candidates.
Avon Fire & Rescue
Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) covers Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire — a mixed urban and rural area with significant industrial and transport infrastructure. Bristol's growing population and busy transport links make this a dynamic service with strong recruitment interest.
AF&RS uses the National Firefighter Selection process. The NFA tests are sat online as part of the application process and must be passed to progress to physical assessment and interview.
The Understanding Information test is particularly relevant to the firefighter role. In real operations, firefighters must quickly absorb written incident information, operational procedures, and safety notices under pressure. The test measures exactly this capability — and it's one you can meaningfully improve with practice.
Candidates who practise all three NFA simulations beforehand consistently report feeling more confident and focused on test day. Familiarity with the format removes anxiety about what to expect and lets you concentrate entirely on answering accurately.
The three NFA tests
All three simulations are included for £14.99. Each is timed, scored, and comes with full answer explanations.

All are multiple-choice. Some services may use variants — always confirm with your specific brigade.
Can I use a calculator in the Working with Numbers test?
No — calculators are not permitted. You will be given rough working paper. Practise mental arithmetic and written working as part of your preparation.
How much does it cost to practise?
Full access to all three NFA test simulations is £14.99, one-time. No subscription, no recurring charges, and access never expires.
Does Avon FRS use NFA tests?
